The chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Governor Kayode Fayemi, who is also the Ekiti state governor has explained that Governor Akeredolu did not order the Fulani to leave Ondo state.

According to Fayemi, the order was misconstrued by the media, the social media in particular.

Fayemi in his welcome remarks during a meeting which held on Monday, between the Nigeria Governors Forum and members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, said the meeting was called to resolve the issue of insecurity in the South-West.

The meeting held following the expiration of an order by Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu where he was reported to have asked members of MACBAN to vacate the state within seven days.

According to Fayemi, the Ondo Governor only directed that all herdsmen should register for them to operate in the state forest reserves.

He said, “Many members of MACBAN were born in the South-West. So, Akeredolu cannot ask Fulani to vacate Ondo State. The area concerned is the forest reserves and it is about registration and also to work in line with the law.

“What we are after is the criminals, not Fulani herdsmen, criminals are criminals irrespective of their ethnic group.”

Some of the governors in attendance include Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, and Jigawa, and Kebbi states.
