An unidentified man in Anambra State has burnt to death in a masquerade costume while trying to pull a stunt at the Eli’m Ede Cultural Festival.

The incident, according to a report by Tribune, happened on Saturday at Ogbunike community, in the Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

The festival is an annual event, where masquerades of various sizes gather at the village square to entertain indigenes.

According to eyewitnesses, the masquerade’s attendants, while leading the masquerade to Amawa square to entertain the people pulled a fire stunt in front of him but extinguished it immediately.

However, the fire already crept under the costume causing serious burns for the masquerade.

The source said: “Unknown to the attendants, the fire had entered the raffia costume worn by the masquerade, and before they could put it off, it spread all over the body of the masquerade, causing the man in it, serious burns.”

The victim who sustained serious injuries was later rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost the following day.
