I might not return alive if my family take me away – Yekini told Lawyer Jubril
The lawyer of late football star, Rashidi Yekini has revealed that the late footballer had a premonition of his death.
Barrister Jubril Muhammed Olanrewaju revealed the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of the football legend while featuring on the BCOS TV flagship sports program Fans’ Forum anchored by Boluwaji Ogunmola and produced by Adewale Tijani.
According to the Ibadan based lawyer, who is a confidant of the late soccer legend, when the family of the late footballer were hell bent on taking him away for treatments over an alleged mental ailment, Yekini urged his lawyer to prevent his family from carrying out their mission, warning him that he might not return alive if taken away.
However, the former 3SC forward was eventually forcefully taken away from his Ibadan residence for treatments on alleged mental illness and died two weeks after.
While narrating the events that led to the footballer’s death, the lawyer who hailed from the same state as Late Yekini, Kwara state, said that he tried in vain to stop his family members from taking him away from his Ibadan residence.
“Yekini’s family came to pick him up at his residence in Ibadan because of the rumour that he was behaving abnormally,” Barrister Olanrewaju said to BCOS TV.
“I tried to stop them by reporting the matter to the then Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Alhaji Baba Adisa Bolanta, who gave a standing order that Rasidi Yekini’s family must not take him away”, he explained further.
But after three unsuccessful attempts, they came back and took him to Awotan area of Apete Ibadan where he finally gave up the ghost after two weeks”, the late footballer’s confidant stated.
Barrister Jubril Muhammed Olanrewaju said he had at no time noticed any symptom of mental illness in the goal king despite allegations of mental illness from his family members.
Till date, Late Rasidi Yekini remains Nigeria’s highest goal scorer having scored 37 goals in 58 appearances.
The late goal king died in Ibadan on the 4th of May 2012 at the age of 48.
