Insecurity: Group calls on Lagos to inaugurate Amotekun Corps

By Modupe Shodeinde

A group of Nigerians in Diaspora, Yoruba One Voice (YOV), have expressed their fear over the security situation in Lagos and urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to inaugurate the Amotekun corps in the State.

The group in a statement by its Secretary-General, Shina Okanlomo, said Nigerians in Diaspora were concerned about the insecurity in the country and how Lagos tops the list of the most volatile.

“How do you want us to come back home where our lives and that of our families aren’t safe? Nigerians in the Diaspora are worried. None of us abroad can contemplate coming to Nigeria without thinking about the porous security situation.

“Most unfortunate is the fact that a mega city like Lagos tops the list of the most volatile in the region.” the statement read.

It stated that the Amotekun bill was signed into law in March 2020, but the security outfit has not yet begun operations in Lagos.

Okanlomo said the delay in the take off of Amotekun in Lagos is dangerous as it will affect the economy.

According to him, the volatile situation will discourage prospective investors from investing in the State.

“No reasonable investor will risk investing in a state where security of lives and property cannot be guaranteed. Herdsmen killed a farmer in Osun State recently. It is unfortunate that terrorists and marauding herdsmen kill people at will. We cannot continue to live in fear and temptation.” he said.

Traditional leaders were also urged to support the Amotekun security outfit to reduce the rate of insecurity in the Southwest region.
