Lagos APC endorses Sanwo-Olu’s plan to scrap pension law

By Emmanuel Awosika

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s decision to scrap the Pension Law which mandates payment of benefits to past governors and deputy-governors.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, welcomed the move, saying it would help reduce cost of governance.

He, however, denounced the opposition for spreading misinformation in order to taint the government’s rationale behind the decision.

“The claim that “Lagos State intends to borrow additional huge sums of money from the Capital Market again, but it must cancel the illegal payments to Governors/Deputies by revoking Ex Governors Pension Law in order for PENCOM to qualify it’s new borrowing for PFAs’ investments” is completely false.

“While we encourage opposition as part of the development of our democratic culture, deliberate falsehood and outright lies do not represent the quality of minds that our people deserve and are not the kind of culture we want our children to imbibe,” he stated.

Oladejo said Lagosians were appreciative of Sanwo-Olu’s move to encourage selflessness among public officials, adding that “only someone who does not wish Lagos well will disparage it.”
