The Lagos State Government has defended its flood control and environmental management efforts following recent heavy rainfall across parts of the state, urging residents and stakeholders not to politicise the situation.

The government said it has continued to invest in drainage infrastructure, flood mitigation projects and routine maintenance of waterways to reduce the impact of flooding, stressing that extreme weather events remain a global challenge.

It maintained that emergency response agencies and relevant ministries have remained on alert to respond to flood-related incidents, while ongoing desilting of drainage channels and enforcement against illegal structures obstructing waterways are being intensified.

The state government also appealed to residents to support its efforts by properly disposing of waste, avoiding the dumping of refuse into drains and complying with environmental regulations.

According to the government, flooding cannot be addressed through government intervention alone, noting that public cooperation is essential to achieving lasting solutions.

It further reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property through sustained investments in flood control infrastructure, environmental sanitation and climate resilience initiatives across the state.
