Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has advised young workers struggling with the high cost of accommodation in the state to consider living with their parents or relatives, or sharing apartments with others.

Hamzat gave the advice during a question-and-answer session with Nigeria Info FM while responding to concerns over how young workers earning low salaries could cope with rising rents in Lagos.

The Deputy Governor was asked how a 22-year-old earning N100,000 monthly could afford a self-contained apartment or mini-flat that costs about N1 million annually.

In response, Hamzat said young people should avoid putting themselves under financial pressure by trying to rent apartments beyond their means.

He advised them to choose accommodation that corresponds with their income and financial capacity.

Hamzat also suggested that young workers could stay with their parents or relatives temporarily while saving money, or share accommodation with friends or colleagues to reduce their housing expenses.

His comments come amid growing concerns over rising rents and the increasing cost of living in Lagos, particularly among young workers and low-income earners.

The Deputy Governor’s advice highlights the need for young workers to prioritise financial stability and avoid committing a large portion of their income to housing costs.
