 Lagos Govt to charge wife beater, Maiyegun to court on Friday

Lagos State Government has said it would charge the wife beater, Afobaje Maiyegun, who was boasting on Facebook after beating his wife that no police could arrest him.

Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, through his Twitter handle on Thursday, hinted that the suspect had been arrested and may be charged to court.

He confirmed that the Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) apprehended the man.

In a viral Facebook post, Maiyegun, boasted that he beat up his wife.

He posted a photo of her bloody face and declared he was “waiting for the police” to come and arrest him.

Akosile said the DSVRT reached out to ACP Gbolahan Odugbemi, Police Commander in Area J, who took an immediate action.

“Preliminary investigation conducted revealed that this is not the first time the said Mr. Maiyegun would perpetrate such a dastardly act.

“A partner NGO, @HerfessionsApp, was on ground to assist with the investigation. The case is set to be charged to court on Friday, 15th May, 2020,” he tweeted.

Akosile reiterated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Old had declared zero tolerance on sexual and Gender Based violence in Lagos State.
