The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has identified 24 markets, commercial establishments and institutional facilities along the Ajah-Lekki axis for enforcement over alleged violations of waste management and environmental regulations.

LAWMA Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the facilities were identified during monitoring activities after breaches of approved waste management requirements were observed.

The affected facilities include Kodak Moment, Bayrock Lifestyle, Caelum Nigeria Ltd, Alpha Pharmacy, Amazon Farm, Ramayaa Mall, Simply Africa Place, Aries Safia, Wolly Mall, Delightful Toy Shop, New Creation Church, The Logic Church, Dow Eye Clinic and Time Oak Hotel.

Others are L OMP, Furniture House, Fashion Design Factory, De Phantom Hotel, Elizade Motors, Trinity, Living Faith Church, Premium Rentals, Christ Chapel Church and QMB Mart.

Gbadegesin said the authority had engaged the affected establishments and given them opportunities to comply with waste management requirements.

He warned that continued violations would attract enforcement measures.

The latest action followed a monitoring and enforcement exercise conducted by LAWMA’s Project WISE team in collaboration with officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), military and police.

The exercise covered the Eleganza and Issa Imamu Market areas of Ajah.

At Eleganza, the enforcement team removed illegal structures erected by traders along road corridors and pedestrian walkways, which the authority said obstructed motorists and pedestrians.

The Issa Imamu Market was also sealed over what LAWMA described as persistent indiscriminate disposal of waste along the roadside.

The authority said the enforcement was part of efforts to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and improve waste management along the Ajah-Lekki corridor.

LAWMA urged businesses, markets and other establishments to comply with approved waste disposal requirements and avoid practices that could create environmental and public health concerns.
