Lecturers in three Lagos State-owned universities have suspended their strike and are set to return to classrooms with immediate effect.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced the suspension on Friday, bringing an end to the industrial action that disrupted academic activities at the institutions.

The affected universities are Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).

The strike was triggered by demands for improved staff welfare and the implementation of outstanding agreements with the Lagos State Government.

In a joint statement, the union leaders expressed appreciation to the media, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, students, parents and other stakeholders for their support during negotiations.

The statement was signed by Olusegun Babalola, Coordinator of the ASUU-LASU Steering Committee; Grace Abimbola, Acting Chairman of ASUU-LASUED; and Murisiku Onigemo, Chairman of ASUU-LASUTECH.
The union said the support of the stakeholders contributed to the negotiation process aimed at resolving the dispute.

It added that members would return to classrooms immediately while discussions with the Lagos State Government continued over outstanding issues relating to their welfare package.

The union also reaffirmed its commitment to quality university education and called for continued engagement with the state government to ensure the full resolution of the outstanding issues.
