LASG threatens drastic action against traffic offenders

By Modupe Shodeinde

The Lagos State Government has made known its plans to start the arrest of motorists who violate the State Traffic Law.

In a statement on Friday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, warned motorists, especially commercial bus drivers, to desist from driving against traffic. He stated that the high rate of traffic violations in such areas as Ojota, Ajah and Eko Bridge were regrettable.

“We will not condone driving against traffic from either public or private motorists. This is, therefore, to sound a note of warning to violators as drastic actions will be taken against anyone caught.” he said.

The Commissioner urged all motorists, private and public, to desist from violating traffic law, as arrested offenders would be prosecuted and have their vehicles impounded and crushed.

He said that plans were being made for a joint enforcement exercise involving the state’s traffic apparatus and the police. This, he said, is to ensure a robust and firm enforcement framework.

“We will start making arrests within the ambit of the law; do not be a victim. We trust that you will cooperate with the government,” he said.

Oladeinde appealed to Lagosians to obey traffic rules and regulations on all roads in the state to ensure the safety of all.
