 LASUSTECH VC visits Traditional Rulers in Ikorodu, Iru kindoms

The Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Prof. Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, together with the members of the Executive Management Committee, on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, paid courtesy visits to Traditional Rulers in Ikorodu.

He visited the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, HRM Oba Kabir Shotobi; the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali; and Sekumade of Ipakodo Kingdom, HRM Oba Bashir Aremu Shotonwa.

The team also paid a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Ranodu of Imota, HRM Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare-Agoro on Thursday, November 3, 2022.

The VC had earlier visited the palace of Oniru of Iru Kingdom HRM Oba Gbolahan Oniru on Thursday, 27th October, 2022.

The Obas and their Councils of Chiefs heartily received the VC and congratulated him on his appointment as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University.

Prof. Odusanya, in his address, said it was important for the University Management to formally pay visits to the Royal Fathers of the Land to seek royal blessings and also solicit the support of the entire Ikorodu Division to realise the University’s dream.

In his response, HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi enjoined the Management not to lower its standard being a new university.

“The University must be able to compete favourably with other universities in terms of standards and modes of operation obtainable in University system,” he said.

He equally appealed to the University Management to join hands with the Palace in its efforts to fight cultism that has eaten deep into the community.

He noted that various measures have been taken by the Palace to reduce cultism to the barest minimum in Ikorodu.

Oba Shotobi further admonished members of Management and all staff members of the Institution to cooperate with the Vice Chancellor to promote mutual benefits and also enable the institution reach its goals.

The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali promised that the University will enjoy continuous support because the community is willing to partner with the Institution in any area to foster development in Ikorodu Division and Lagos State.

HRM Oba Engr. Bashir Aremu Shotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo Kingdom, in his address, noted that the transmutation of the erstwhile Polytechnic into a University has been long awaited and will attract development to Ikorodu Division.

He said both the University and the community have roles to play in ensuring that the University develops fast.

He, therefore, assured the Management of his support whenever requests are made to the Palace.

The Ranodu of Imota congratulated Prof. Odusanya on his appointment and assured the University of support at all times.

Prof. Odusanya, while responding, assured the Royal fathers that the Institution will uphold the high standards expected of a University, adding that Management will from time to time visit the Palace for consultation and request support from the communities.

While appreciating the warm reception accorded him and the members of Management, the VC disclosed that the University anticipates collaboration and partnership programmes which will promote a mutual and beneficial relationship between the Institution and Ikorodu at large.
