Mailafia Invited By Police For Questioning

By Emmanuel Awosika

The Nigerian Police has ordered Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, ex-Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, to appear at its Abuja office on Monday.

This invitation comes even as the Department of State Services is conducting a separate investigation of the former CBN official.

The DSS had invited Mailafia to its office in Jos following his comments on a radio interview which suggested that a serving governor in the Northern region was among the commanders of terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

When quizzed for the source of the information, Mailafia had attributed it to some of the Boko Haram fighters he had met.

It is unclear if the new police probe is connected to his radio comments, as the invite failed to give any reason for the invitation.

The invitation letter, signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Umar Sanda, and titled ‘Re: Investigation Activities, Police Investigation’ reads:

“We wish to inform you that this office is investigating a case in which your name featured prominently.

“In light of the above, you are invited to in an interview with the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, FCID Abuja, through the undersigned on Monday, August 24, 2020 by 11am at Room 407, 3rd Floor, FCID Complex, Area 10, Abuja.

“Accept the assurances of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, FCID.”

Since his comments on radio, Mailafia has been subject of investigations, appearing before the DSS twice in the last two weeks alone.
