LG Chairman Suspended Over Fayemi Presidential Campaign Posters

By Emmanuel Awosika

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has suspended Femi Ayodele, Chairman of Ikere Local Government, for allegedly publishing campaign posters promoting a purported bid by Governor Kayode Fayemi for the Presidency in the 2023 general elections.

Pictures of the posters had flooded social media and subsequently went viral, with Fayemi later dissociating himself from the posters.

The motion for the LG boss to suspended and investigated for the unauthorized publication of campaign posters was moved by the Majority Leader of the House of Assembly, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan.

The title of the motion reads: ‘Calling for an investigation into the alleged unsolicited and unauthorised campaign in the media in flagrant disregard to Extant Regulations by Chairman, Ikere Local Government Area, Mr Femi Ayodele’.

After a brief deliberation, the House asked the Committee on Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs to conduct further investigation into the issue.

However, it ordered the LGA boss to step down until the issue was fully resolved.

Speaker of the House, Mr Fuminiyi Afuye, in his comments on the issue, ordered the committee to present its findings to the House within a week.

During the debate on the issue, some members of the House described Ayodele’s actions as an embarrassment to the Ekiti State Government and a blatant disregard for the provisions of the Electoral Act, calling for appropriate sanctions against the LG chairman.
