Man leaves wife of 21 years over refusal to cook for him

A painter, Ojo Ayeni, has divorced his wife of 21 years, Sade, over the latter’s refusal to cook meals for him and his three children.
Mr. Ayeni told a Customary Court sitting in Mapo that his wife had stopped cooking for the family of five for about two years.
In his testimony, Ayeni said his wife has refused to cook and even mocked him whenever she saw him cooking.
He added that she would always dismiss his complaints each time he reported her behavior to her family.
“My lord, the problem even worsened when Sade started mocking me whenever she sees me cooking for the children.
“In fact, she now returns home very late in the night and has caused great division in the home.
“I have developed a High Blood Pressure as a result and I would not want to resolve to self-help,” Ojo said.
Sade, who was against the divorce, denied part of the allegations her husband made against her.
According to her, she had only stopped cooking after her husband accused her of attempting to poison his food.
She said, “I admit that I stopped cooking my husband’s meals because he accused me of trying to poison the food.”
Justice Odunade, who presided over the court, dissolved the marriage for the sake of peace.
The judge granted custody of the last two children to Sade while the first child went to Ayeni. He ordered the man to pay a monthly feeding allowance of N10,000 to his wife.
