Nigerian university students protest in Abuja, others over ASUU strike

Aggrieved Nigerian university students on Monday took to major roads and streets in Abuja, the nation’s capital, and in other states of the country, protesting the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
In Abuja, the protest was led by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Sunday Asefon.
Asefon and other students converged at the Unity Fountain in Abuja, Monday morning, and from there marched to the Federal Secretariat and the National Assembly.
States, where university students protested on Monday, include Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger State, Taraba, Kano.
Asefon had last week issued a one-week ultimatum for the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve their disagreement or face a national mass action by Nigerian students across the country.
The NANS president had told newsmen that Nigerian university students would block major roads in Abuja and other states of the country if the government and ASUU failed to resolve.
