Nigerians not eligible to apply for U.S Visa lottery, 2022

By Modupe Shodeinde

The United States government has declared Nigerian citizens as ineligible to participate in the U.S visa lottery, 2022.

Nigeria is the only African country barred from participating in the Diversity Visa programme.

This was contained in a document titled ‘Instructions for the 2022 diversity immigrant visa program (dv-2022)’ obtained from the US website on Thursday.

“In Africa, natives of Nigeria are not eligible for this year’s Diversity Visa program,” the document stated.

The document stated that the reason for this ineligibility is because more than 50,000 Nigerians immigrated to the United States in the previous five years.

Other countries who fall into this category and are barred from taking part include Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
