The NIMC regional coordinator, Ms Opesanwo, says National Identification Number (NIN) holders who want to correct their date of birth will pay a fee of N15,000.

She further added that a sum of N5,000 would be paid for card renewal or card replacement, while an address modification fee is N500, PUNCH Newspaper reported.

She explained that enrollment for the NIN is free but other services like the card renewal, correction of date of birth and change of address have charges attached to them.

“For the date of birth correction, there is a processing fee of N15,000. For card renewal or card replacement, there is a processing fee of N5,000. For the modification of address or name, it is N500. So, people misconstrue this to mean that in NIMC they are asking them to pay money. No, those are for services.”Ms Opesanwo said

“For correction of date of birth, it is N15,000 and it is payable to the TSA,” she added.

Nigerians had been directed to link their mobile numbers to their NIN, while telecom subscribers without NIN have until February 9 to register and link their numbers.

Telecommunication operators were ordered by the Federal Government to block all the subscribers who fail to link their mobile numbers to their NIN.
