NMA Inaugurates Committee To Probe Violent Enugu Elections

By Emmanuel Awosika

The Nigerian Medical Association announced today the inauguration of a three-man committee to probe the actions of its members in Enugu state in the aborted NMA elections.

Describing the behavior exhibited by its members as “shameful”, the association apologized to Nigerians who may have been left disappointed by the actions of its members in the Enugu NMA elections.

The NMA President, Professor Innocent Ujah, who revealed the committee’s inauguration at a press conference in Abuja, said it was sequel to the National Officers’ Committee meeting.

Ujah also implored local branches of the NMA yet to hold elections to make sure they safeguarded the values and fundamental rights of their members.

The committee is headed by former NMA President, Professor Mike Ogirima, and also comprises Ayam Ayuk and Chris Yilgwan, both immediate past chairmen of the NMA in Cross River and Plateau states respectively.

The committee, which has two weeks to report its findings, has been charged with investigating the circumstances that contributed to the abortion of the 2020 Enugu State NMA election, among other things.

Furthermore, it is to identify all individuals who contributed directly and indirectly to the disruption of the election.
