PFIPC probe: Failure to question Gbajabiamila, Adeyemi a miscarriage of justice

Former presidential spokesperson and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised the National Assembly over its handling of the probe into the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.

Okonkwo argued that concluding the investigation without questioning Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi amounted to a miscarriage of justice.

He maintained that the principles of natural justice require that anyone accused or linked to a matter be given an opportunity to respond before any conclusions are reached.

The former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman also dismissed the explanation that Adeyemi could not appear before lawmakers because he was being held in custody on the strength of a court order.

According to him, the legislature has the constitutional responsibility to conduct its investigations independently, adding that the National Assembly should also have questioned Gbajabiamila, who was not in detention.

Okonkwo urged Nigerians to demand accountability from public institutions and to use the 2027 general elections to strengthen democratic governance.
