Promote socio-economic reforms at grassroots, Sanwo-Olu charges Local Government Service Commission members

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has advised members of the Local Government Service Commission to promote socio-economic reforms at the grassroots level.

He tasked them on creating a local government that espouses accountability, efficient service delivery, grassroots transformation and rural socio-economic development.

Sanwo-Olu spoke at the swearing-in of the Chairman and members of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, which held at the Lagos House in Ikeja on Monday.

He said his government would make sure all local constituencies in the state get the dividends of democracy.

He reminded the newly appointed officials of the importance of the local government, saying it had the most impact on citizens as it closer to them.

“You have been appointed to fulfill our mandate of bringing governance closer to the people. You have all been in positions of leadership at the local government level and you know what needs to be done for the electorate to feel our impact in our Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas. I charge you with the responsibility of engendering socio-economic reforms at the local government level; you must ensure that our councils have what it takes to provide satisfactory and effective public service,” he told appointees in his address.

On his part, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Kamal Baiyewu, promised to deliver a world-class workforce that has high levels of professionalism and motivation.

“Sir, we pledge to reciprocate this confidence you have reposed in us and promise to deliver a highly professional and motivated workforce that can compete with any civil service in the whole world,” he enthused.
