Reps slam UK Parliament for stance on #EndSARS protests, Gowon accusation

By Emmanuel Awosika

The House of Representatives on Tuesday criticised the British Parliament for its debate on the recent #EndSARS protests in Nigeria.

Lagos Street Journal earlier reported that a member of the British Parliament had made allegations of embezzlement against former Head of State Yakubu Gowon.

The Reps described the allegations as baseless and challenged the UK Parliament to back up its claims with proof or tender an apology to Nigerians.

Various UK Parliamentarians had criticised the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for the attacks and intimidation of #EndSARS protesters.

Among other things, they demanded sanctions for complicit officials, including visa ban, freezing of assets, and blocking funds for the Nigeria Police Force.

The UK Parliament had initiated the debate following a petition started by Silas Ojo which had garnered over 200,000 signatures.
