Sowore Tells Defence Minister to Focus on Insecurity, Leave 2027 Election Alone
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Minister of Defence Christopher Musa over his assurance that security agencies would remain neutral during the 2027 general election.
Sowore accused the minister of being partisan in favour of President Bola Tinubu and questioned his ability to guarantee impartiality in the electoral process.
In a post on X, the activist urged Musa to focus on tackling insecurity rather than making assurances about the conduct of the forthcoming election.
“This retired loudmouth, Christopher Musa, who failed in his duties as a serving General in the Nigerian Army is now here promising free and fair elections in 2027, when he is, in fact, a partisan hack for Tinubu. He should leave 2027 alone and face insecurity,” Sowore wrote.
He was reacting to comments made by Musa after a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
The defence minister had assured Nigerians that security agencies would remain professional and impartial during the 2027 elections, adding that voters would be able to participate without intimidation.
Musa said the meeting with the president and security chiefs was convened to discuss the country’s security situation ahead of the polls.
He also urged political parties to trust security agencies, insisting that personnel would provide a safe environment for Nigerians to exercise their voting rights.
Sowore’s criticism comes amid growing political discussions over the preparedness and neutrality of security agencies ahead of the 2027 general election.
