 Strike Ultimatum: NMA, affiliates to hold emergency meeting on October 2

The Nigerian Medical Association alongside other affiliate bodies will hold an emergency meeting  to review the progress made concerning the ultimatum given to the Federal Government on August 28, 2021.

The NMA gave the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to resolve all the issues contained in the various agreements signed with its affiliate members – the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) and the Medical and Dental Doctors in Academics (MEDSABAM).

Also, the ongoing strike by the NARD which began on August 2, 2021.

The NMA had stated that in the event that the Federal Government fails to implement the agreements after the expiration of the 21- day notice, it shall summon an emergency delegate meeting to review the progress made on the implementation of the agreements.

To this effect, the NMA will convoke Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM).

The notice reads: “Notice is hereby given for an Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM) of the Nigerian Medical Association.

“This is sequel to the request by majority of our National Executive Council (NEC) members for a physical meeting instead of the earlier scheduled virtual meeting and taking into consideration the forthcoming NARD AGM and availability of venue that can amply accommodate all delegates on the 2nd October, 2021.

“Venue: Royal Choice Inn, Behind CBN Iiead Qt. Central Business District Abuja, FCT Agendum: Review of the progress of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding Between Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and The Nigerian Medical Association.”
