At least two minors have been killed and one declared missing after heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in the Birninkudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

It was also gathered that the flood resulting from the rain had also destroyed several homes and farms in the area.

According to the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Alhaji Wada Faka, the two minors had died from a building collapse caused by the rains.

He said one of the minors, a boy aged 10, was killed after a building collapsed on him in Kiyako village. The other minor, a girl aged 7, died in a building collapse, too; this time in Miyasa village.

The council chairman also said a 40-year old man in Samamiya village, had been declared missing since Monday following the downpour.

According to reports, the flood ruined thousands of farmlands and killed several livestock in surrounding areas, including Malamawar Gangaran, Babaldu, Wurno, Kiyako, and Samamiya villages.

However, the council chairman indicated that the administration was making efforts to procure assistance to alleviate the suffering of the people in face of the tragedy.

“As I am speaking with you, we have already sent our officials to these villages to assess the damages caused by the flood so that we do our best to assist the victims.

“Also, we have earlier sent a situation report to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) so that it will come to the aid of the victims.
