U-20 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria face Colombia in quarter-final

Nigeria’s Falconets will face Colombia in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

The match is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, at the Stadion Miejski ŁKS in Łódź, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

Nigeria reached the quarter-finals after defeating England 3-0 in the round of 16 on Thursday.

Tosin Rafiu opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei doubled Nigeria’s lead shortly after the restart. Mary Mamudu completed the scoring in the 73rd minute.

The Falconets had earlier lost 2-0 to Spain in their opening Group F match, drew 0-0 with China and then defeated New Caledonia 10-1 to finish second in the group.

Colombia booked its place in the last eight after defeating hosts Poland 1-0 in the round of 16. An own goal by Poland’s Martyna Bartczak in the closing stages settled the match.

Nigeria and Colombia previously met in the semi-finals of the 2010 U-20 Women’s World Cup, with Nigeria winning 1-0 through an early goal from Ebere Orji.

The winner of Sunday’s quarter-final will advance to the semi-finals, where they will face either Canada or defending champions North Korea.

Nigeria have twice finished runners-up at the U-20 Women’s World Cup, in 2010 and 2014, while their last semi-final appearance came in 2014.
