The Management of the University of Lagos has shut down the staff club of the institution in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The Head of the Media Unit of the University, Mrs Olufadeke Akinleye, confirmed this to on Friday, 8 January, 2021.

She explained that the development was a precautionary measure.

“Yes, we have shut down the staff club. The directive was given by the VC, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe. It is a precautionary measure and in line with the directive of the Federal Government that clubs should be shut,” she said.

When asked if the shutdown was as a result of alleged cases of COVID-19 among UNILAG lecturers, she replied, “No, that is not true.”

A former Dean of Faculty of Education at UNILAG, Professor Duro Ajeyalemi, died at 70.
