US Mission closes Abuja, Lagos offices for Independence Day
The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the closure of its offices in Abuja and Lagos on Thursday, October 1, to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The closure affects the US Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos, where routine consular and other public services will be unavailable for the day.
The closure is part of the mission’s holiday schedule for 2026, which includes public holidays observed in Nigeria and the United States.
The Federal Government declared October 1 a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s independence anniversary.
Routine services are expected to resume after the holiday. Nigerians requiring consular services are advised to take the closure into account when planning appointments.
