Wike Tackles Rainbow Coalition Critics, Says They Cannot Unite Their Families
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised politicians opposing the Rainbow Coalition, saying they lack the capacity to unite even their families and communities.
Wike said those attacking the political alliance were only expressing their inability to work with people holding different political interests.
The minister made the remarks on Monday during the commissioning of the Gwagwalada Civic Centre and an interactive session with All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
He commended political leaders in the area for putting aside their differences to work together, describing their decision as an example of political cooperation.
Wike said some politicians were opposed to the coalition because they did not understand the importance of unity and collective interests.
“Some greedy and selfish politicians do not understand what we call unity. They have no capacity to hold their space, they have no capacity to even hold their families, and they have no capacity to hold their communities. So they can open their mouths and say there is no Rainbow Coalition,” he said.
The FCT minister challenged the critics to explain why politicians who previously belonged to opposing camps could not work together for the development of their communities.
He maintained that the coalition was aimed at bringing political actors together despite their differences.
Wike also urged residents of the FCT not to repeat what he described as the mistake of the 2023 general elections, calling for the election of credible representatives into the National Assembly.
He questioned whether the current representatives adequately understood the challenges facing residents across the six area councils of the FCT.
The minister specifically canvassed support for former Senator Philip Aduda and other candidates endorsed by the coalition, saying elected representatives should understand the needs of their constituents.
He further called on residents to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, urging them to translate their political support into votes at the polling units.
Wike’s Rainbow Coalition brings together political actors from different parties, including the APC and PDP, with the stated objective of supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid.
