Eyo festival begins in Lagos with colourful processions
The Eyo festival, popularly known as the Adamu Orisha Play, kicked off with vibrant processions as residents, visitors and spectators poured into Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, on Saturday for the 2025 edition.
According to Channels TV, President Bola Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi, will be among the distinguished guests, alongside Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Kadri Hamzat, to grace today’s event.
The Eyo Festival, which last held in 2017, is famous for its white-clad masquerades, rhythmic chants, and energetic dances rooted in Yoruba symbolism.
A cultural treasure of Lagos, the festival ranks among the nation’s most recognisable traditional events.
Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, inaugurated the Eyo Monument at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, Lagos Island.
The monument is described as a powerful symbol of Lagos heritage and is expected to boost the state’s cultural tourism, enriching educational and economic development.
