The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has faulted moves by the Federal Government to regulate social media in the country.

CAN said social media has given ordinary Nigerians the opportunity to express their opinions, adding that any attempts to regulate it may cause another wave of unrest in the country.

President of CAN’s youth wing, Apostle Nyeneime Andy, made the body’s position known while addressing reporters in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said some youths make ends meet via social media, saying regulating it would affect those using social media for legitimate purposes.

“Social media is a strong platform that can be used to sharpen discussions, even though it has negative side. Millions of people make their daily living from social media, even when some people claim that it destroys. Millions of others are also learning from social media.

“In fact, Facebook seems to be the strongest religion in the world. The fact that there are few negative side to it does not mean that there are no good sides. Undoubtedly, the positive side of social media outweighs the negative side,” he said.

Andy futher condemned the alleged shooting of unarmed #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate and called on the government to fulfill its promise of reforming the Police
