A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Ossai Nicholas Ossai, has called for the removal of Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Sadiya Farouk, over her failure to assist communities affected by flooding in Delta State.

Ossai, representing Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal Constituency of Delta State, made the call at a press briefing on Wednesday.

He asked the government to sack the Minister since she failed to provide emergency aid to the affected communities despite her post as Humanitarian Affairs minister.

He said, “The mantra of this government, is change; let the government change the Minister, if she cannot respond to the suffering of the people who have been affected by the floods.”

He raised alarm over the incessant flooding in the Ndokwa East, saying the communities have experienced heavy downpour accompanied by extreme flooding and erosion for the last two weeks.

He added: “[I am] disturbed that schools, farmlands, health Centers, places of worship has seriously been affected and over One Hundred and Fifty (150) households has been rendered homeless particularly children and women and more is still being affected daily. About Ninety (90%) of the Communities in the entire Ndokwa East Local Government Area has been submerged, and worse still is the deplorable economic conditions of the peasant farmers in these agrarian communities.”

He urged the Federal Government to order the Ecological Fund office to conduct an environmental survey on the affected areas to help solve the problem of excessive flooding.
