Falz, Others, Beg FG To Reopen Cinemas

Popular entertainer, Folana Falarin, commonly known as Falz, has asked the Federal Government to allow the entertainment industry reopen.

Falz, son of prominent human rights activist, Femi Falana, made the request via Twitter after Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced that international flights would resume on August 29, 2020.

Back in March, when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak, public spaces including cinemas had been shut down to prevent the spread of the virus.

However, while many public spaces including banks, markets, churches and others, cinemas, clubs have been reopened, cinemas, clubs and other places of relaxation are still closed.

On the situation, Falz tweeted, “Restaurants have reopened, airlines have been operating, places of worship have also been permitted to reopen. Let’s not even start to talk about all the videos that have surfaced of political rallies happening, clearly neglecting all safety precautions.

“Right now, we don’t see anything but a government that contributes little or nothing to its creative sector and continues to attempt to stifle the sector in every way. Thousands of people have been left without any way to earn for several months.

“The entertainment industry must be allowed to gradually get back in business. Let’s start with cinemas reopening with all safety precautions in place.”

In similar fashion, a member of the House of Representatives representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Constituency, Akin Alabi, tweeted his support for easing of restrictions on cinemas.

“It’s no longer making sense that cinemas are still closed. They have assured the government and the public that they are ready to open at less than half capacity. Planes are flying full capacity. Parties are going on. Don’t let me mention rallies,” he said on Twitter.

It remains to seen if the Federal Government will make a U-turn on its order restricting cinemas and similar relaxation spots from reoppening.
