The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared a 24-hour curfew to take effect in the state from 4pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2020.

The Governor, in a statement on Tuesday morning, expressed his concerns on how miscreants are posing as protesters to wreak havoc in the state.

The statement read: ” I have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well being of our society.

“Lives have been lost as criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protest to increase mayhem on our state.

“As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown commitment to the movement #EndSARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state.”

The statement stated that only essential service providers and first responders can be found in the streets.

The Governor reiterated his support of the youths and said that he understand their legitimate concerns.

He however appealed to the #EndSARS protesters to suspend the protests and bear with the government to work on their demands.

He added that the government had inaugurated an 8-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution, which will receive and investigate complaints of police brutality in the state.

“I encourage everyone brutalized by the disbanded SARS including the families of those who have died to present their cases before this panel.” Sanwo-Olu said.
