Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, confirmed that 334 abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, regained their freedom on Thursday night.

The Governor in an interview with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) said the boys, on Friday, would be transported to Kankara from Tsafe, Zamfara State, to be reunited with their families.

According to Masari, the release of the boys was facilitated by the leadership of MACABAN/Miyetti Allah.

Secretary to the State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, also confirmed the release of the boys in a statement.

He said they would undergo medical examination before being reunited with their families.

The Katsina state Governor stated that no ransom was paid for the release of the students.

Also, in an interview with DWTV Hausa at 10pm on Thursday, Masari explained that those involved in the negotiation for the release of the students included Adviser to the Governor, “some top military and police operatives, members of Miyetti Allah; (they) where all involved in the negotiation.”

The students were abducted when gunmen invaded their school on Friday, 11th of December, 2020.

Before the release of the students, the Boko Haram sect had purportedly released a video of the students in a wooded area to dismiss claims by Masari and the Nigerian Army that it (Boko Haram) was not responsible for the mass abduction.

However, the Governor during the interview said those who kidnapped the boys were bandits not Boko Haram.
