Kidnappers Of Civil Servant Demand N20m Ransom

By Emmanuel Awosika

The kidnappers of a Christopher Soje, a Federal Civil Servant attached to the Ministry of Culture and Orientation in Warri, Delta State, have demanded that his family pay a N20m ransom from his release.

Soje had been kidnapped in the morning along the x Expressway as he was returning to Delta from a weekend stay at his family house in Ondo.

Reportedly, the family of Christopher Soje had begged for a reduction in the ransom, but their appeals fell on deaf ears.

Family sources said the kidnappers had earlier insisted on collecting N100m as ransom but brought down the price to N20m

When the family explained they lacked financial resources to pay a N20m ransom, the kidnappers reportedly got angry and declared they wouldn’t release for Soje for any amount lower than N20m.

“The abductors had initially demanded N100m ransom but decided to reduce it to N20m which we told them we cannot afford”

“We told them that we cannot even afford N1million but they won’t listen to us,” the family source said.

This has left the family with no choice but to seek financial assistance to raise the ransom. The family source said the family had sought monetary help from the victim’s friends and colleagues and other relatives to raise N3m for Soje.

“We believe if we can increase the ransom to N3 million, the kidnappers would release our son,” the family source said.
