Lagos Government Mourns Veteran Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’
The Lagos State Government has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
The state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture described the late actor as a cultural icon and a notable ambassador of Yoruba heritage.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, said Hassan’s contributions to the entertainment industry extended beyond acting.
According to her, the actor played a significant role in promoting Yoruba culture and preserving its values through his performances on stage and screen.
She said Hassan entertained generations of Nigerians while contributing to the growth of the creative industry in Lagos and across the country.
Benson-Awoyinka commiserated with Hassan’s family, friends, colleagues and members of the wider creative community over the loss.
Ogogo died on Sunday at the age of 66 after battling cancer. His death came days after his daughters publicly appealed for assistance as the actor’s health deteriorated.
The veteran actor was later buried on Monday in Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites.
