 Lagos Police tries 81 operatives, dismisses 10

The Lagos Police Command in a bid to promote discipline and core values of policing in the state has tried 81 operatives for various criminal and disciplinary offences.

The command’s spokesperson, Oluwamuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Wednesday, said they were tried for offences ranging from murder, discreditable conducts, excessive use of power, corrupt practices and negligence.

“The command has dismissed and prosecuted seven, while 10 personnel were dismissed.

” In addition, 18 of the men were reduced in ranks and 29 were awarded 10 major entries and warning letters accordingly.

“Others were awarded extra fatigue, while 16 of the men were discharged and acquitted for want of evidence.” he said.

He stated that the personnel tried in orderly room proceedings conducted at various locations in the state included 45 inspectors, 29 sergeants and seven corporals.

The spokesman also said that some senior officers of the command were queried for various disciplinary offences with the queries being processed at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for necessary action.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Hakeem Odumosu had seen the necessity to take steps to sanitise the police workforce in order to expel indiscipline and crime within the force.

“He, therefore, appeals to the general public to report any misconduct of police personnel to appropriate authorities, as such will be treated accordingly and justice will be done.”Adejobi said.
