LASDRI boss warns drivers against reckless driving

By Emmanuel Awosika

The General Manager, Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, has warned drivers to avoid reckless driving to prevent road mishaps during the Yuletide season and beyond.

Speaking on a programme “Bosenlo” on Traffic Radio 96.1FM, Tiamiyu said most crashes on Lagos roads were a result of overspeeding.

She stressed the need for drivers to shun overspeeding, advising that “When planning your journey, you need to put into consideration the delay you may encounter on the road, therefore leave your home at least two hours before your appointment so that you can meet up as scheduled without indulging in over-speeding.”

Tiamiyu further pleaded with drivers to comply with all safety guidelines to ensure sanity on roads. She asked drivers to use seatbelts, and also avoid tailgating and overloading vehicles.

The LASDRI boss also stated that the agency was carrying out sensitisation programmes for drivers as well as retraining them to promote safer driving.

“It is our mandate to ensure they learn about their responsibilities to themselves, their vehicles, other road users and the government towards achieving road safety across the metropolis,” she added.
