NGO, DJUNE Club donates food items to less privileged in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Niger States

As part of their effort towards eradicating poverty in the society, a group of people born in June have donated food items and other materials to the less privileged in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Niger States.
The donors, who are operating under a non-governmental organisation (NGO) known as DJUNE CLUB, said they felt the need to support the less privileged in the society such as the old people, the orphans, the people living with disabilities and others who are in dire need of support.
Speaking on the gesture, the founder of the organization, Miss. Bolawa Beracha said it was the maiden edition of the organization as it fed some beggars in at Sango, Ogun State and donated raw foods such as bags of rice, bottle water, toiletries and other materials to the elderly ones at Old Peoples Home in Yaba, Lagos.
According to her, similarly items were donated to orphanages in Ibadan, Oyo State which was coordinated by Mr. Peter Olutunde Ojo and Niger State.
Beracha, who said the organisation was formed purposely to help the less privileged, noted that it spent about N200,000 in its maiden edition to procure the items, saying the organisation is looking forward to expanding the donation in years to come as she appealed to every June born to join the club.
“This is our maiden edition. We were able to raise about N200,500 and we used the money to buy the items which were donated to the people in need in four states. We are looking forward to having well-to-do people such as the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Alibaba, Sam Omatseye – the Chairman of The Nation Newspaper Editorial Board and other bigwigs in the society who are also June born to join DJune Club.
“Though we are growing and expanding, currently we have about 44 members in Nigeria and other members abroad, we are making consultation to make sure the right people are captured so that we can use the occasion of our birthday in June to reach out to the people in need and impact on their lives. We are planning to support the government by giving scholarship to the indigent students, rehabilitate roads in communities, provide health facilities and so on in our own capacity.”
Speaking on how she formed the club, Beracha said she conceived the idea when some people came to her house to beg for food during the Coronavirus pandemic shutdown.
“It was the time of my birthday last year during the pandemic. I thought I would make greater impact on many people’s lives if I could gather the little I have to feed the less privileged instead of throwing party for those who could afford to feed themselves. To me, a life of no impact is a life of no value. Then, I went online to gather more people especially those who were equally born in June to form a group with me so that we can celebrate together and use the occasion to support the people in need. This year, we are doing the maiden edition of June Born Celebration but we plan to make it bigger in the subsequent years.
“Once again, I’m appealing to all others across the nation and in the diaspora who were born in June to join the organisation so that we can together make greater impacts on others lives. We can be reach on djuneclub@gmail.com and 08026114800.”
