NUC orders schools to ready for resumption

By Emmanuel Awosika

The National Universities Commission has ordered schools to conclude arrangements in readiness for reopening.

This comes after the Federal Government permitted schools in the country to reopen after a six-month closure due the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NUC ordered all Vice Chancellors to ensure their resumption arrangement are in harmony with guidelines of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The order was contained in a memo signed by Chris Maiyaki, one of the Directors in the NUC Executive Secretary’s Office.

According to the memo, the NUC would be dispatching officials to inspect various areas in the tertiary institutions including lecture theatres, staff offices, hostels and so on.

“Universities must under no circumstances, violate the full cycle of the semester system, consistent with the NUC approved Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS),” the NUC memo added.

Equally, it stated that schools must comply fully with the NUC quality assurance provisions and guidelines.
