No practical assessment for BECE candidates in Lagos this year

Junior Secondary School 3 students sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations in Lagos will not undergo practical assessments, the state government announced today.

The Basic Education Certificate Examination set to hold from October 6 to October 12 at designated centers around Lagos.

The announcement was contained in a statement released by the Lagos State Examinations Board.

According to the Director of the LSEB, Mr Supo Gbadegesin, the decision to cancel practical assessment resulted from a need to reduce time spent by candidates at the examination centres.

The Board’s statement reads partly: “For the avoidance of doubt, the Board would be unable to embark on the Practical Assessment of Candidates because of the brevity of time available to her in the conduct of the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination.

“It is worthy to note that the Practical Assessment ought to have taken place between March and April 2020 but due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic virus, schools had to be closed down to prevent the spread of the virus.
