 Ogundipe reinstated as UNILAG VC

By Modupe Shodeinde

There have been reports that the suspended Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has been reinstated.

It was gathered that the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, is expected to announce his reinstatement at a press conference to hold in Abuja today by 12pm.

Ogundipe, was removed from office in August 2020 by UNILAG’s Governing Council, headed by the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Wale Babalakin, over allegations of infractions and gross misconduct.

The council then appointed Prof. Theophilus Omololu Soyombo of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Lagos as the acting Vice Chancellor.

This was condemned by the Senate and staff unions of the university.

In order to restore peace, President Muhammadu Buhari had asked both Babalakin and Ogundipe to step aside and appointed Prof Folashade Ogunsola to act as the VC pending the report of the visitation committee.
