PCRC warns traders on dangers of Covid-19

By Rasaq Adebayo

Concerned that traders are not complying with measures rolled out by the government to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Aswani Division has warned on the danger of the second wave.

The committee’s chairman, Hon. Adeleke Adegboyega disclosed that the committee organised sensitisation programme for the traders at Aswani market in February and another one on Tuesday, last week, noting that the committee went round distributing informative fliers, facemasks and sanitising people’s hands while enlightening them about the danger of the virus and the need to ensure strict compliance with all preventive measures.

Adegboyega, who doubles as the Vice-Chairman of PCRC, Area D, said the sensitisation programme is a directive from the state government, promising that it would be repeated frequently.

He, however, advised other divisions in Area D to heed the directive ahead of the joint sensitisation exercise the state government plans to hold with the PCRC to curb the spread of the virus.

His words: “We intend doing ours weekly.  It shouldn’t be a one-time programme because we need to sensitise people as often as possible to help them remain mindful of the pandemic and how they can protect themselves. We will move around the community and Aswani Market to sensitise the people.

He said the body seeks to set a pace for other divisions to follow because this second wave of the virus is deadlier.
