Petitioner’s failure to provide accommodation for son delays court judgement

The judgement on the divorce case filed by Mr. Yakubu Titiloye against his wife, Mrs. Sakirat Titiloye has been delayed since the petitioner failed to accommodate his two year old son as early ordered by the court.

The president of Oshodi-Isolo customary court, Mrs. Adebisi Laditan, had earlier after hearing the case for the first time, ordered the husband to get accommodation for their only son before the court could dissolve the marriage between him and his wife.

The wife had also agreed to dissolution of the marriage but on the condition that the petitioner provides accommodation for their child which the court upheld.

When they reappeared at the court last week, the petitioner stated that lack of financial capability hindered him from meeting up with the accommodation request.

He explained that he has N30,000 and a room apartment he got costs N60,000 which he could not afford and he resorted to get the accommodation at Sango in Ogun State which the respondent rejected.

He said his wife insisted that she could not cope coming from Sango to Oshodi for her hairdressing job daily.

Base on this, the court gave the petitioner another one week grace as the last chance to provide the money for accommodation before the next adjournment date on Thursday, April 1, 2021 while asking the respondent to get a room accommodation with a fair rent before the next court sitting.

However, the petitioner appealed to the court that he should be given the opportunity to settle the accommodation issue with the respondent’s family out of court but the respondent rebuffed the appeal, insisting that the case should be decided by the court.

With the new development, the court warned the parties not to deviate from the responsibility given to them regarding the provision of money for accommodation.

Laditan thereby adjourned the case till Thursday, April 1, 2021 for final judgement.
