Police deny claims of #EndSARS protests in Lagos

By Emmanuel Awosika

The Police in Lagos State have denied claims that youths organised fresh #EndSARS protests in the state on Monday.

Earlier, a video showing ostensibly showing a gathering of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate had gone viral on social media, fueling reports of fresh protests in Lagos.

However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, branded the reports as false, adding that the viral video was an old one.

Adejobi said on Twitter on Monday: “The attention of the Lagos State police command has been drawn to this viral video that some youths staged a protest at Lekki tollgate today 7th Dec 2020. It’s not true.

This was a very old video before the tollgate was set ablaze. PPRO Lagos.”

Lagos Street Journal reports that security personnel were deployed to the Lekki Tollgate ostensibly to prevent another #EndSARS protest from holding.

President Muhammadu Buhari also warned on Monday that security operatives would deal with hooligans who hijack protests for ulterior motives.
