 Schools to reopen in Lagos Monday

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the reopening of public and private schools in the state, as from September 21.

Sanwo-Olu announced this while speaking at a COVID-19 briefing at the Lagos House in Marina yesterday.

He clarified that only students in Junior Secondary School 3 and Senior Secondary School 2 would be allowed to resume in public schools.

The Governor urged private school owners to spread out resumption days for students, and hold classes on alternate days.

He, however, said all pre-primary school classes, including nursery, daycare centres and kindergarten in the state are to remain closed.

Furthermore, he reiterated the government’s commitment to safe reopening of schools, and mandated all re-opened schools to comply with outlined safety procedures and hygiene guidelines.

He revealed that the Office of Education Quality Assurance, noting that the department would monitor and evaluate schools’ preparedness.

All schools in the state had been closed since March as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
