All schools in Abia state can now reopen for the continuation of the first term 2020/2021 academic session.

The Governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu, has given the approval for all schools in the state to resume academic activities on January 11, 2021.

The Commissioner of Education, Kanaelechi Nwangwa, however warned all school heads and proprietors to adhere to the strict observance of COVID-19 protocols for the safety of teachers and students.

This he said was necessary due to the second wave of the Covid-19 in the country.

In order to ensure that the first term session runs a full course, all schools were directed to officially end the first term of 2020/2021 on Wednesday Feb. 10, 2021.

Any school proprietor that shortchanges this schedule and decides to cut corners by running an abridged term will be appropriately sanctioned.

“The duration of the first term for the 2020/2021 academic session is from Nov. 2, 2020 to Feb. 10, 2021 with the Christmas break in-between,” he said.

School heads and proprietors were also advised to be properly guided by the directive to avoid unwanted consequences.
