Scientists Win Nobel Prize for advance research of black hole

Three scientists have won the 2020 Nobel prize in physics for advancing research of black hole that disrupts gravity and light.

The scientists, Roger Penrose (British), Reinhard Genzel (German) and Adrea Ghez (American) were awarded for advancing the understanding of black holes, regions of space that have been difficult to understand.

Black holes which are at the center of every galaxy are massive, that nothing can escape their gravitational pull.

According to Associated Press, Penrose received half of the prize for discovering that black hole formation is a robust prediction of” Albert Einstein’s “general theory of relativity”

Genzel and Chez received the second half for discovering a supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy.

Penrose in an interview with Associated Press said black holes fascinate people because “the idea of some monster out there sucking everything up is a pretty weird thing,”

“Black holes, because they are so hard to understand, is what makes them so appealing,’’ Ghez said.

Ghez, who is the fourth woman ever to win a Nobel in physics, expressed her hope to inspire other young women into the field which she termed as “a field that has so many pleasures.”
