Toke Makinwa reveals why she no longer buys gifts for men

Media personality Toke Makinwa has explained why she has stopped buying gifts for men, saying past experiences made her rethink the gesture.

Speaking during the latest episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, the media entrepreneur said she had often gone out of her way to buy thoughtful presents for men but rarely received the same level of effort in return.

According to her, she eventually realised she was investing more into relationships than she was getting back, prompting her to change her approach.

Makinwa said she now believes gift-giving should be reciprocal and that she would rather reserve such gestures for people who genuinely appreciate and value them.

She added that the decision is not driven by bitterness but by the need to protect her peace and avoid repeating unhealthy relationship patterns.

The TV host encouraged women to stop overextending themselves in relationships where their efforts are not appreciated, stressing the importance of mutual care, respect and intentionality.
